I’m sure that this:

REPORT: GOP Lawmakers Outnumber Democratic Lawmakers 2 To 1 In Stimulus Debate On Cable News

has nothing to do with this:

The Plum Line

Who’s winning the public argument over the stimulus package, President Obama and Dems, or the House Republicans who have now voted against it en masse?

New polling from Rasmussen suggests that among the broader public, the ongoing argument isn’t really moving the needle much, with 42% supporting it, down a bit from from 45% last week.

However, in a bit of ominous news for proponents of the package, the swing against it among independents has been dramatic…

However, support among unaffiliated voters has fallen. A week ago, unaffiliateds were evenly divided on the plan, with 37% in favor and 36% opposed. Now, 50% of unaffiliated voters oppose the plan while only 27% favor it.

That’s pretty big indy movement against the package. Republicans tell me they feel like their insistence on tax cuts in the plan is gaining traction, and indeed, the poll finds that support has grown for a recovery plan that includes only tax cuts, such as that pushed by House GOPers, with 43% favoring it while 39% oppose it.

One other thought: The poll finds, unsurprisingly, a stark ideological divide on the stim package, with liberals strongly backing it and conservatives strongly opposing it. So one possible reason for the unanimous GOP opposition could simply be to juice up the base, which was badly demoralized by the electoral bludgeoning the GOP took last year.
