Does anyone else find it odd that there is no mention of, or interest in, a possible cause to this?
Eerily, as I am typing, my other computers Word of the Day screen saver was displaying:
petard |piˈtärd|
noun historical
a small bomb made of a metal or wooden box filled with powder, used to blast down a door or to make a hole in a wall.
Update: Judi mentions in the comments that a possible explanation is corrosion, apparently it happened years ago in Hawaii. I’m sure there are many possible causes, with bombing being lowest on the list.
Update 2: I should of grabbed the original article, it’s been edited since I read it, bad blogger. It did not contain this:
An official at the U.S. Transportation Security Administration, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the incident was not domestic, said initial reports show it was not related to terrorism.
And there was a part about access to the airplane had been prevented because Quantas wasn’t allowing engineers to inspect the plane at this time. It has been removed from the current article.
Chris - you are too young to remember; but decades ago an Hawaiian Airline landed in Maui. Before it landed, a very large section of the cabin ceiling peeled off exposing passengers. I vaguely remember that the cause was due to corrosion which is common in salt water areas like islands.
