Politics - Clinton Style

January 4th, 2008

Manchester NH — Mark Penn, senior political strategist for the Hillary Clinton campaign, today urged Barack Obama to “come clean” and admit that he has fathered two African American girls.

Penn, speaking to reporters on the Manchester airport tarmac as he was getting his hair re-slimed, defended raising the issue on the grounds that his candidate is losing and he needed to throw as much shit at the wall as possible in hopes that something will stick.

I really hope the days of this type of Karl Rove smear tactic bullshit are coming to an end.

I must say watching Hillary’s speech last night gave me joy. Practically in the same breath she praised the vote for change from the status quo while admitting she’s been the status quo…

This is a great night for Democrats. We have seen an unprecedented turnout here in Iowa. And that is good news, because today we’re sending a clear message: that we are going to have change

And we’re going to reclaim the future for our children. I have done this work for 35 years. It is the work of my lifetime. I have done — I have been involved in making it possible for young people to have a better education and for people of all ages to have health care, and that transforming work is what we desperately need in our country again.

Let’s hope the Clinton era of the Democratic party is truly over.

But with 50 states to go, who knows, Hillary still has a great chance. And she’s a hell of a lot better than anything on the Republican side.

Congrats to Obama for turning out the youth and first timers. A sign of things to come I hope.

Edwards has been my favorite from the beginning, it was great to see him win second place last night. His populist message really rings true with a lot of people.

To put things in perspective, compare last nights results to the amount of money spent. Hillary has 400 paid staffers, Obama 300, and Edwards placed second with only 175.

Huckabee won easily on the Republican side, campaigning on a populist message. Check out Davide Sirota’s post on populism, a must read:
